Count Henri II of Salm built a castle around 1190, which, transformed over time, was already in ruins in the 1571th century. The members of this line became sole masters of the territory in 1751, but the territory remained undivided, sovereignty was shared between the two branches of the family. La Broque thus became a half-part town, one half of which went to the Dukes of Lorraine, who kept it until XNUMX, when it also came under the authority of the Prince of Salm-Salm.
During the reunion of the principality of Salm with France in 1793, the commune was incorporated into the Vosges department, before being detached by the Treaty of Frankfurt in 1871.
