The villages of the Bruche Valley are dotted with numerous dual-basin fountains which
were used to fight fires and to supply the inhabitants with running water, while at the same time serving as a drinking trough and washing area. Frequently rustic in nature up in the mountain villages, where many date from the 19th century, these fountains are often sculptural masterpieces, such as the delightful fountain at Wisches-Hersbach. The town of Saâles is among those that has the most, namely 25 public fountains.
